Our Icelandic tour will be organised in the usual inimitable Backwater style, concentrating in the south west of the country – taking in impressive vistas such as those on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula which stretches 55 miles into the Atlantic Ocean on the western coast of Iceland and the Golden Circle Peninsula – and matching those memorable scenic experiences which many of you enjoyed on our New Zealand tours.
You won’t just be ticking off tourist points and attempting to circumnavigate the whole of Iceland in one go: you’ll be staying in four different hotels just in the south west of Iceland for the duration so will not have to pack up and move on each day.
Each run from one hotel to the next will offer a different experience, and our proposed routes will incorporate the best of the Golden Circle – such as the Ƿinvellir (Thingvellir) National Park, the geothermal wonders of Geysir – an active geyser and major attraction, and the iconic Gullfoss Waterfall which cascades down in two stages into the canyon 105ft below.
Great extra activities…
Included in our ‘Iceland Frost and Fire Tour 2021’ are some extra activities. You will be taking a guided coach tour of Reykjavik and a visit to the world-famous Blue Lagoon (a geothermal spa located in a lava field), as well as a drive up a glacier and an ice cave tour.
There aren’t many trees in Iceland but there are beautiful wildflowers during spring and summer months – especially the vibrant purple ‘Alaskan lupines’ which cloak the landscape in vast patches during June/July.
We have not cut corners on this tour, despite the fact that Iceland is expensive, but have included high-cost features within the tour cost – for example, you will be staying in four-star hotels (four-star hotels are difficult to find in Iceland), enjoying breakfast and a three-course dinner every day. Plus, Blue Lagoon and Glacier and ice cave trip excursions.
A local tour guide will brief our group at dinner on our first night in Iceland and accompany the coach tour of Reykjavik. Each of the four hotels we are using has its own unique character and is located in an area of interest, and the drive from one hotel to the next is awe-inspiring.
Need to know…
We have personally carried out a detailed research in Iceland – visiting, adding and deleting hotels as necessary and amending routes and days as we explored, which has resulted in a varied and balanced ten days, nine nights, scenic tour.
We were overwhelmed with Iceland and now understand why people who have already visited the country are so keen to return. Local people are friendly and helpful, and the food is considered among the healthiest in the world, as well as being of the best quality.
The tour group consists of twelve couples and will not be increased; the hotels have already been booked. It’s worth pointing out that most private escorted group tours in Iceland are in coaches or minibuses, not driving a car which visitors can enjoy driving themselves on virtually traffic-free and thermally-heated roads.
Pre-programmed satnavs for each day will be supplied giving you a choice of routes some days, and once clear of Reykjavik there is very little traffic. Everyone speaks English too, so no language problems.Flight duration from the UK to Iceland is less than three hours.
NB: Air fares are not included in the tour cost but are not expensive.
Transport your car to Iceland option…
The Efficient Freight Company – ‘your car transported to Iceland’, are the official transport partners for Backwater Cars Tours.
As a guide cost to transport your car and return in an enclosed container inclusive of import paperwork is £2000.00. Arrangements can be made from UK and Europe.
This company is highly experienced in all aspects of global motorsport freight and logistics – having been associated with multiple UK teams and tour operators for more than 40 years and have been responsible for the safe movement of very expensive cars.
